Who is Mind State Software Developing?
Mind State Software Developing was started by Monique Stertz. Monique previously held a
position in US West Communications and was known for resolving business problems. When the opportunity arose,
she left the comfort of a staff position to start her own company. She realized that she could utilize her
skills and the skills of people she knew to make projects work better.

She has helped make Mind State Software Developing gain a great reputation for finishing projects on time. Imagine
that. The failure rate for software projects in this decade is 80-90% that they will fail to ever resolve the
challenge.
Monique has the vision of helping business customers be successful. Her areas of expertise include:
- Feasibility and Benefit Consultant
- Design and Develop Logical User Interfaces
- Process Design
- Application Testing and Maintenance
Monique is talented in understanding the customer's perspective and identifies the real challenges which
the customer faces in day to day business processes.
Without this critical stage of process analysis, a software project will not be successful.
Monique has been a key force in each project by placing herself in the perspective of the user to promote
user friendly interfaces.
She also excels in managing testing resources and evaluating the effectiveness of the application.
The Perfect Match
When the opportunity came available, Monique's husband, Dereck, joined the team full time as a
technical lead and developer.
Dereck has had a colorful background in his 19 years of
software development. He joined US West
Communications, a baby bell, in 1987 where he quickly rose to a technical lead with US West's Home and Personal Services.
Dereck wrote applications and designed entire systems that grew the use of telemarketing for US West Communications.
The whole system, from the capturing of sales data to manipulating PBX and ACD phone switches, was designed and maintained
under Dereck's leadership as technical lead.
CTI (Computer to Telephone Interface) connectivity to phone switching
equipment was a new technology in those days. Dereck's team was able to make the most efficient use of trunking,
transferring and predictive dialing capabilities.
At an appropriate time in his career, Dereck left US West Communications, to consult and contract his skills to
companies like: Storage Tech, Inc., Raytheon's Emass Division, US West Communications, now Qwest Communications, and Level 3 Communications.
Dereck was tasked with computing challenges such as: debugging kernel level device drivers, building tape
device drivers, consulting, building sales processing systems and building data collection processes that
monitor communication devices.
Dereck was also given the opportunity to develop two products which were later submitted for a
software patent. One patent was for an application that would coordinate computer functions to PBX switches. The other
patent pending application allows database administrators to evaluate and extract table rows from massive
backup binary files and import the rows to other databases.
